Chris’s passion for film ignited at age 7, evolving from a childhood fascination into a lifelong pursuit. He launched a YouTube channel, mastering shooting, editing, and performance. His comedy sketches amassed over 1 million views, but he sought deeper narratives—stories rich in emotional depth.
Inspired by cinematic legends like Francis Ford Coppola, Stanley Kubrick, and Martin Scorsese, and modern visionaries Quentin Tarantino, David Fincher, and Darren Aronofsky, Chris refined his directorial voice. He also drew from Vietnamese arts, infusing his work with authentic cultural resonance.
Chris’s artistic journey wasn’t confined to film—his passion for music led him to master piano and develop a deep love for hip-hop, seamlessly integrating sound into his visual storytelling.
Dissatisfied with traditional education, he left California State University, Northridge (CSUN), feeling film school stifled his vision. His skills, honed through self-directed learning and hands-on experience, surpassed classroom teachings. Refusing to follow the conventional path, Chris forged his own destiny in independent filmmaking.
His debut short film, "Suburban Story," emerged from a desire to depict Bay Area culture with authenticity. Inspired by his upbringing in San Jose, the film explores the complexities of suburban life, weaving together humor, tension, and raw emotion.
Chris took on **multiple roles—writer, director, producer, editor, and actor—**approaching each challenge with precision and passion. His cinematography captures nostalgia and modernity, immersing audiences in a gritty yet heartfelt crime thriller. The meticulous editing, pacing, and sound design elevate Suburban Story beyond its budget, proving that powerful storytelling transcends financial limitations.
The film's festival run was a resounding success, earning 15 awards, solidifying Chris’s reputation as a bold and innovative filmmaker. Critics praised its compelling performances, unique storytelling, and masterful direction.
For Chris, film is more than entertainment—it’s an artistic statement, a symphony of visuals, sound, and emotion, and a homage to his heritage. With each project, he aims to push boundaries, captivate audiences, and leave a lasting impact on cinema.
