He gained widespread notoriety by presenting alleged physical evidence of his encounters, including a viral video of an alien peeking through his window, complex mathematical equations supposedly implanted in his mind, and mysterious body scars. His claims initially attracted a massive following and even inspired the 2016 documentary Extraordinary: The Stan Romanek Story.

Investigators and skeptics quickly exposed his evidence as fraudulent—revealing that his famous alien video used a puppet and catching him using strings to fake paranormal activity during live events. The final blow came in 2017 when Romanek was convicted of possession of child pornography, a criminal sentence that led the UFO community to permanently distance themselves from him, leaving his legacy as one of the darkest frauds in paranormal history
